About Me

Colman Xie is a Canadian composer and sound designer. His interest in both was formed from a childhood playing video games, particularly the whimsy and aesthetics of Nintendo games. This evolved into passion, and he earned a Bachelor of Music in Theory and Composition from the University of Western Ontario. He also holds a Graduate Diploma from Sheridan College, graduating from their intensive MASSIVE program.

A versatile artist, Colman’s music covers diverse genres from electronic to neoclassical to big band. Drawing on his background performing wind band music, he is musically interested in timbre, expanded harmonies, counterpoint, and the unconventional use of instruments. Colman’s approach to music also influenced his sound design work, which has developed a reputation for being incredibly detailed.

Currently, Colman is continuing to establish himself in the audio post-production and video game worlds, and use his multidisciplinary expertise to bring any project to life.

He is an avid cook, and enjoys experimenting with food as much as he does sound. At some point he wants to take up archery again and improve his groupings. Eventually he wishes to one day adopt a cat.
